KOSUN gas-fluid separator is an excellent mud gas separator. The gas-invaded drilling fluid enters the separator tangentially through the inlet, falls onto a series of specially designed internal baffles along the inner wall, undergoes collision, increases the exposed surface area, and then flows downward, causing the turbulent flow to separate the gas from the drilling fluid.  The free gas is discharged through the gas outlet on top of the tank, and the length of the vent pipe is determined and equipped on-site, directing it to a safe location while the degassed drilling fluid is discharged into the mud tank for circulation.

KOSUN mud gas separator used for drilling mud is one of the essential equipment in drilling solids control. The mud gas separator is mainly used to remove large air bubbles with a diameter of approximately ≥φ3mm in gas-invaded drilling mud. These large air bubbles refer to the expansible gases present in the drilling fluid that fills a certain section of the annulus. If not removed, they can cause wellbore influx or even blowout onto the drill floor.

Characteristics of the KOSUN mud gas separator:

1. Controls the liquid level by draining and discharging fluids from the bottom to ensure a constant liquid level inside the separator, while also solving the problem of sand accumulation in the tank.

2. It has a dedicated gas separation channel in the tank, ensuring smooth gas discharge and improving gas treatment efficiency.

3. The mud gas separator combines centrifugal separation, physical impact separation, and vacuum separation to ensure effective gas separation.

4. The supply pipe of the gas-liquid separator is equipped with cushioning devices and replaceable impact-resistant baffles at each bend, allowing regular inspections and replacements to prolong the equipment's service life.

5. The Poor boy degasser is made of special materials to prevent damage from hydrogen sulfide gas in the gas stream.

The installation of the mud gas separator:

In general, the mud gas separator is installed beside the mud tank on the level and solid ground, with pre-set anchor bolt pits. During installation, the main body is lifted with a crane by the top lifting lug, slowly lowered to be perpendicular to the ground, and then tightened with steel wire ropes at three points (evenly distributed) from the upper part to the ground, ensuring the main body is vertical. Then, concrete is poured to secure the anchor bolts.

After installation, the exhaust pipe should be extended to a distance of 60-80m from the wellhead. The inlet of the gas-liquid separator is connected to the rotation preventer or choke manifold, the drain butterfly valve is closed, and the mud outlet butterfly valve is opened, allowing the pipeline to be connected to the mud tank.

During transportation, remove the pipeline connections, loosen the tightened steel wire ropes, lift the main body with a crane from the top, loosen the anchor bolts, and place it horizontally.  At this time, the ladder can be used as support during transportation.
