The large production volume and low comprehensive utilization rate of engineering muck in many country have become an important environmental problem that needs to be solved urgently in the process of urban development, and its resource utilization is the future development trend.

Shield tunneling is used in the construction of most urban subway tunnels in many country, and at least 45,000 cubic meters of muck is generated per kilometer of subway shield tunnel construction. The soil pressure balance construction will use additives such as bentonite and foaming agent to produce improved flow plastic muck. The muck contains a large amount of fluidity mud, and the water content of the muck increases significantly. It is easy to cause leakage during transportation and inconvenient transportation problems, and conventional construction waste disposal sites are difficult to accept. At present, the treatment methods of shield muck are mainly stacked and landfilled, which causes the polymer additives and heavy metals in the shielding process to flow into the surrounding environment and cause serious harm.

Based on the principle of reduction, harmlessness, and resource utilization of engineering muck treatment, KOSUN has launched a shield muck treatment system. The final materials after treatment is sand, gravel and mud cake. Sand and gravel aggregates can be used as building materials foundation. The mud cake is planted with earthen bricks or burnt ceramsite after component analysis.
