KOSUN Delivers a Customized 90 m³/h Mud Treatment System for Continuous Drilling Slurry Management

Efficient drilling slurry management is essential for maintaining continuous operations while reducing slurry disposal and resource consumption. To meet the requirements of a drilling research facility, KOSUN recently delivered a customized 90 m³/h mud treatment system designed for continuous drilling slurry treatment, solids separation and water recycling.

The project addresses a common challenge in drilling research: drilling tests continuously generate slurry that operators must treat before reuse or disposal. Conventional collection and off-site disposal can increase transportation requirements, operating costs and processing time.

By integrating multiple treatment stages into a single system, the mud treatment system provides an on-site solution for separating solids from drilling slurry and recovering water for reuse during testing activities.

A Customized Mud Treatment System for Continuous Operation

Every drilling application has different slurry characteristics, treatment requirements and operating conditions.

For this project, KOSUN designed the 90 m³/h mud treatment system around the customer’s specific requirements, integrating solids separation, slurry circulation and water recycling into a compact system.

The system delivers the following core capabilities:

  • 90 m³/h processing capacity
  • Efficient solid-liquid separation
  • Continuous mud recycling
  • Water recovery and reuse
  • Automated system operation
  • Customized system configuration

The integrated configuration allows different treatment stages to work together as one system, helping maintain stable slurry treatment during continuous drilling tests.

Integrated Solids Control and Mud Recycling

The core of the system is based on proven solids control technology.

Drilling slurry passes through different separation stages to remove unwanted solids while maintaining the required fluid properties for continued use. The system then returns the treated fluid directly to the testing process, minimizing frequent slurry replacement and off-site logistics.

This integrated approach combines solids control, mud recycling and water reuse within one engineered solution.

For drilling operations where slurry is continuously generated, integrating these processes can help simplify fluid management and improve overall operational efficiency.

Applications Beyond Drilling Research

Although this mud treatment system was developed for a drilling research application, the underlying solids control and mud recycling technologies can be applied across a wider range of industries.

Typical applications include:

  • Oil & Gas Drilling
  • Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
  • Foundation Engineering
  • Mining & Tailings Management
  • Environmental & Wastewater Treatment

The system configuration can be adapted according to different slurry characteristics, processing capacities and site requirements.
